Life moves pretty fast...

Graduation Day -- although there were no spontaneous parade numbers or Charlie Sheen to make it half as exciting.. (does anyone else see the irony that he was playing a drugged-out teenager in the police station in Ferris?)

That's me... front and center, thank you law school choir.

Wore red shoes. Didn't really care if they were appropriate or not.

Getting hooded. Felt like a Jedi.

And...of course....my favorite study partner.

Deadly Every After Murder Mystery Dinner

We had the pleasure of attending a "literary" murder mystery dinner with my study group last weekend. Brittany Bayles and Erica Kiefer were our talented hostesses -- who did a fabulous job of pulling the event off.

I went as Snow White...courtesy of my Mom's costume which thankfully included enough stretchy fabric to accomodate my bump. Needless to say, my pleas to find true love were not taken as seriously with my burgeoning belly underfoot.

Michael went as the strong, silent Robin Hood. I made most of his costume and found the green sweats at DI.

This was Michael beating Erica at a highly-contested musical chairs match. I'll let you be the judge if it was a fair match...surface area-wise.

Throw 'em the fake and then finagle...they'll never know you're just...a bagel...

Props to whoever can catch the reference...I'll give you a hint if you didn't grow up in a Broadway-house...its from a musical set in the 20s...

But anyway, I started my internship today (law schools call them externships...but for the life of me I can't decipher why they are any different other than the obvious grad school thing...I mean...small office...check...no pay...check...but you get credit..check...yep--- sounds like an internship to me!

I am working at the Utah Crime Victims Legal Clinic, which is a great non-profit in Salt Lake that provides free legal services to people who have been the victims of crimes. Think of it as legal aid (you know - what Sandra Bullock did at the end of Two Weeks Notice) with a uber-specialty - helping out just the victims of crimes, and usually only violent or physical crimes of some sort, protect their rights, e.g. getting reparations from the perpetrators, preparing and reading some sort of victim impact statement at sentencing or the hearing, getting a restraining order, etc.

So its cool -- and I think I will get to go to court a lot, which is pretty fun, because you see some fun stuff there, its like the bus stop but with some random people in suits thrown in the mix. And I am excited to be working with such dedicated attorneys - folks who could be making a killing (well in any normal market anyway) anywhere else but do this kind of thing because they really want to help people, especially in a very pioneering area of the law = victims' rights.

I am excited.

The Barrister's Ball...AKA "Law School Prom"

Yes, just in case law school wasn't quite close enough to high school, we had our Barrister's Ball and Award Ceremony/Law School Prom last week. While that sounds like a mouthful, remember that attorneys are paid by the hour and that old habits die hard...even in academia.

So, the formal event was held in the historic Academy Library Building (original BYU campus). I wore a black lace and satin dress.

My husband wore a mohawk and red skate shoes.

Awesome.

My friend Marcie and I. We are snowboarding buddies and look significantly less hot in those outfits normally. Especially me (see frozen cheek smile faces in a previous post for any clarification).

We had a good time, especially since our whole study group made it out. Yeah for seeing folks outside of the law school... or just outside in general.

1L Bridal Shower

I helped a few girls throw a group bridal shower for three other first-year students who are getting married this spring. We had it in our reading room at the law school, but I tried to doll it up best I could, going for the easy red/pink theme since we were so close to V-Day.

I think these Martha Stewart pom-poms worked out better as hats than decorations... although I have seen them pulled off at other showers.

Great food - Kirsten made some awesome hummus!

TP dressing with the brides.

Scary signs you might be becoming a lawyer...

I was driving around on Saturday, my mind wandering, when I had a sudden thought.

If I got hit by some guy right now from California (only bc a Utah driver, although more plausible on multiple levels, doesn't work in my hypothetical)...would there be diversity jurisdiction?

I thought about who would be the different parties on either side and if we would reach the jurisdictional amount, and how much damage that would have to be, but that it wouldn't matter in federal quetion because there is no damages floor...but what kind of accident invokes federal question automatically--hitting a loose Army humvee on the road? But wouldn't they have governmental immunity, unless they were somewhat negligent on their part and...

I thought all of this.

Scary.

And there is a month before finals. Yeesh.

First's...

My first anniversary...and yes the cake was pretty good...but then again...I would probably eat sugar in any form...at after any time period...(celebrating it with a Russian goon from a Bonde movie was a lil' bonus)...

My first day of law school...

First female Vice President candidate...

My first Anthropologie-item-covet....of this week....

As for Palin--I am excited. I like her spunk (big shock there), and appreciate the candor she uses to describe her view. I have watched some of her small-group debates for her Alaska race and she knows when to stop talking. She has a gift for stating her value or opinion but stopping before it translates nto some macro-level policy that wouldn't work on a government level.

I am also warming up to McCain, especially the closer we get to an potential reality where a senator with less than a term under his belt will become our commander-in-chief, ringing in a new era of "change" alright--more taxes; more bureacracy; more waffling on abortion, security, and protecionism. Personally, I found this a rather eloquent way to sum it up:
